Fakarava is the second-largest atoll in the west of the Tuamotu group in French Polynesia. Once serving as the ancient capital of the Tuamotu region, the town is now populated with picturesque villages and coral churches. Snorkelers and scuba divers will love this atoll with its purple waters and 150-foot visibility. There is a large lagoon with black pearl farms and white, sandy beaches. The island has also been designated part of a UNESCO nature reserve because of its pure environment.
