The third largest island of the Canary Islands, Grand Canary is a volcanic ocean island located southeast of Tenerife. Sometimes referred to as a "miniature continent" because of the varying climates and landscapes found, the island is under protection as a Biosphere Reserve and serves as a popular tourist destination. The capital city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has a vibrant city life, though guests looking for relaxation can lay on the beach, visit botanical gardens or one of the numerous caves and rock formations.
